2:34pm Monday 13th February 2012 in Southend By Gina Marden
MYSTERY surrounds how pools of blood appeared in three Southend streets.
Police found themselves investigating a potential crime with no victim and nothing else to go on, after they were called to the trail of blood.
A man had been out walking his dog in Gainsborough Drive at about 1.30pm on Saturday, when he came across a large amount of blood on the ground.
He also spotted a broken bottle drenched in blood nearby and a trail which led through to nearby Fairfax Road and Prittle Brook.
Police were called to the scene and immediately put up cordons, fearing all three roads had been the scene of a stabbing.
Officers combed the scene for clues and followed the trail of blood to see if it led them any closer to finding out what happened, but the trail abruptly ended.
They also carried out house-to-house inquiries in the area to find out if residents had seen or heard anything, while the local hospitals were contacted to see if anyone had been taken in with corresponding injuries.
However, so far they have been unable to solve the riddle.
An Essex Police spokesperspn said: “A scene guard was put in place and officers followed the blood trail, which unfortunately disappeared after a certain point.
“So far, no victim or victims have come forward and we have had no reports of any incidents in that area on Friday evening.
“We have carried out all possible checks to establish what has happened. Unless someone comes forward, we have no victim.”
The blood was cleaned by Saturday evening and the police cordons were removed.

I think this was just somebody having a " joke", and wasting police time into the bargain. PROBABLY someone who lived very near by,in Gainsborough Drive, more than likely and could watch all the exitement. Sick individual, maybe the police should concentrate their efforts there!!
