A BURGLAR fled empty-handed after being confronted by a home-owner.
The crook was trying to get in through the back door of a house in Bridgwater Drive, Westcliff, and had smashed a glass panel.
He was attempting to reach through and open the door, when he was disturbed.
The burglar fled empty-handed at about 4pm on Monday, February 13.
The suspect is a man who wore a grey hoody and jogging bottoms and a Russian style hat which covered his ears. He was holding an orange rucksack.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity in this area or can offer any information is asked to contact PC Reece Brent at Southend police station on 101.

What exactly are you entitled to do to an intruder in this case? I think the police need to invest in educating the public on theirs rights when scenarios like this arise.
