A BUDDING model has got people guessing after starring in a hit reality show.
Viewers of E4 programme Playing it Straight will have seen Danny Denkmayer, 21, of Whitefriars Crescent, Westcliff, make it to the final eight of the programme, which sees 14 men compete to win the affections of Cara.
She has the enviable task of choosing one man at the end of the eight-week series, but she first has to do her best to discover which of them are gay.
If she correctly chooses someone straight at the end, she will take home half of the £500,000 prize money, but if she is deceived by one of the gay contestants, they walk away with it all.
Danny is staying tight-lipped about his sexuality, but admits he nearly quit the show after becoming concerned about how the public would perceive him.
He said: “It’s just scary being on a reality show. You don’t know how people are going to react.
“I realise now you can’t edit someone’s personality, not when you are being filmed that much. Everyone so far seems to have come across really well.”
With his Twitter followers now at more than 4,000 and messages of love flying in from both men and women, he really did not need to worry.
Danny said: “I don’t want to be a let down in person, but everyone has been so nice. I’m really grateful. My friends and family just think the programme is so funny.”
He can’t reveal if he left the house with the money or the girl, but he did come out with a new best friend after bonding with fellow contestant Dean.
The pair, who still meet up regularly and have even been on holiday together, believe their “gaydar” is spot on.
Danny said: “Me and Dean were best mates in the house and we could tell who was gay and who wasn’t, but there was one person who really shocked us.”
Danny has tried his hand at hairdressing, retail work and a career in recruitment, but now has a promising future ahead in modelling. His looks got him noticed by a modelling agency, and he has not ruled out the possibility of appearing in another reality show.
He added: “There are so many exciting things coming up on the programme which I will never have the opportunity to do again. I’m so glad I did it.
“I never thought I would want to do anything like this again, but if it was the right show, which didn’t involve playing a game, I would definitely consider it.”
