Why are all films in Southend about gangsters and the underbelly of society? Have film makers not go any other story lines they could use to show our town in a positive light?

I absolutely agree. As soon as I saw the photo it was obvious it was going to be another gangster/hard nut film.

I can't understand why all these films that focus on the South West of Essex county have to be ganster themed.

if you think it's glamourous just pop down the cemetery and have a moment with Messrs Tucker , Tate and Rolfe.
Being gansters didn't do them any good.

Just watched the trailer "yawn" usual old cobblers of sharp suited thugs doing deals in nightclubs and then screwing peroxide blondies in high heels and mini skirts "yawn" before assaulting or killing their next victim " yawn" .
Another re-hashed load of old tosh. Any sign of the usual suspects? Billy Murray , Frank Harper , Craig Fairbrass , Tamer Hassan , Kierston Wareing , Terry Stone etc etc etc "YAWN, YAWN"

So these gangsters battle for control of the town & its pier. Lets look at the opposition they face. Parking wardens & spycars ruthlessly control the streets & take no prisoners. Better leave the flash motors at home. Now, where do the gangsters launder their drug money? No problem, they have an endless supply of pawnbrokers & pound shops to choose from. As for control of the pier, well they better wait till after 7.00am or they will face the might of the EU for waking up some ruddy turnstone that's trying to sleep. If the gangsters like reading then the flash new library being built should be right up their alley. Apart from that, its a hard life being a gangster in Southend.

What sort of film would be out to show Southend (or anywhere) in a positive light and still be interesting and fun to watch? I can’t imagine what sort of film that would be – a romance perhaps? Anyway I’m sure if it showed Southend in a positive light it could only achieve this by being a very boring movie! Who knows maybe Fast & Furious 6 will show some kind of fun/positive side to our nightlife here – then again I guess that depends whether you’re into cars and women, lol!

Gangsters such a bandied about word anyway, it’s ridiculous! Are there any gangsters in Southend? I wouldn’t class any of the boys that got shot in Rettendon as gangsters, just mindless thugs who couldn’t give a cr*p about anybody but themselves and enjoyed causing misery! Perhaps there are some organized crime gangsters in London but here, wouldn’t have thought so? Murdering, dealing, attacking people etc doesn’t make somebody a gangsta!

wow... i thought it was a documentary until i realised a few facts..

the gangsters had money
they where articulate
they had a plan
they where smartly dressed
they where not running the council (the worst gang for bringing this town to its knees)

other then that its all publicity for the town regardless of how the local Tories want the town portrayed in there own socially cleansed and ghastly image..

Is this the same airport shown on the Eddie Stobbart prog the other night? Turn up and they won't let you on the plane because it is too small.Brilliant.

"Hard Boiled Sweets" in SOS should be an interesting film to watch...
Bring it on & show us how this town will be portrayed !

killing dad was a great film, filmed in the Palace Hotel and on the seafront, also bloody kids is worth a look, directed by Stephen Frears. There's a great bit in the old Victoria Circus building. :o) This one does look like the usual gangster thing. Don't think I can be ar$ed to watch this.
