Novice kite surfer rescued from water

1:25pm Sunday 24th June 2012 in Southend

A NOVICE kite surfer was rushed to hospital after a botched water landing off the coast of Shoebury’s East Beach.

Southend Coastguard and the RNLI inshore lifeboat and hovercraft team raced to the surfer, who landed heavily on the water one mile off the coast just after 11.15am on Saturday.

He was rescued by the lifeboat crew and given oxygen before being taken to shore.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to Southend Hospital with a leg injury and mild hypothermia.

So what did you do when you were younger? At least these lads are not robbing old ladies or vandalising other peoples property. In my experience the kite/wind surfers tend to be very decent well educated young people. Hope he gets better soon and hope this doesn't put him off playing on the water. So who's a clown?

Oooh, pedantic! I'm a sailor and I often see the kite surfers out in the Ray close up and I've never seen any old men doing it which is hardly surprising as it's a very physical sport that needs quick reactions. Why don't you give it a go Dearie x

Not a chance, no gin, no fishing and no trolls. Tell your Mother there used to pleasure boats along the foreshore that took people out for a quick whizz round the pier but I don't know if they still operate.
