Police helicopter scrambled after unconscious man found in Southend
8:14pm Tuesday 7th August 2012 in Southend
POLICE used a helicopter to scour Southend for a car after it sped away from officers.
Police were out on routine patrol in Southchurch Road, Southend, at 2am this morning when they spotted an unconscious man slumped on the floor near to Pizza Hut.
A short distance away, a silver Mercedes A170 sped off as the unconscious man awoke and walked off.
The police helicopter was scrambled to search for the car which was found a short distance away having broken down.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the occupants had got out of the car and had been joined by the previously unconscious man.
The car was seized by police after it was found to have no insurance. The man who had been on the floor outside Pizza Hut was drunk and refused to co-operate with police.
Nobody was arrested and police have impounded the car until the owner collects it.
