‘Earthquake’ kerb has been crumbling for years
9:00am Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Southend
A WOMAN has hit out at the county council for leaving the end of her driveway looking like it’s been hit by an earthquake.
Christine Mowbrey, of Moreland Close, Benfleet , says she has complained for the past three years about the condition of the kerb and pavement at the end of her drive.
Mrs Mowbrey said she and her neighbours have been trying for years to get the problems sorted out, but have been continually fobbed off.
The brick kerb has come away from the pavement and wobbles when it’s walked on.
Mrs Mowbrey, 64, said she is fearful it’s going to take someone getting hurt to make sure the crumbling pavement is fixed.
She said: “The kerb at the end of my pathway has been crumbling away for the past three years. I have called the council so many times I have lost count.
“I have even said to the people at the council that I will get someone out to fix it myself, but I was deterred because of health and safety issues.
“All I want is the path fixed because it’s dangerous. It looks like there could have been an earthquake with the ground crumbling like that. All the neighbours have been talking about this for years and we are at the end of our tether because we just don’t know what to do.”
A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “The problems with this stretch of pavement have been logged in our system and an inspector has been out to assess the area. We can confirm repairs are scheduled in October.”
