Don’t concrete over our land

9:38am Thursday 9th July 2009

It is outrageous five new sites within Basildon District must be given over to the travellers in keeping with the orders of the unelected East of England Regional Assembly.

The assembly has published its final report in which up to 90 acres of land across Basildon District are to be concreted over for more housing.

I call on the leader of the council, Tony Ball, to remove his Conservative representative from the board of the assembly, stop paying any money to the EERA and most importantly ignore it.

It is a quango created by the European Union. Not one member that sits on it has been directly elected to serve on it. Why should Basildon District Council allow it to destroy acre after acre of Basildon’s green fields?
