May I apologise to everyone at the Cliffs Pavilion last Saturday for even dreaming that a show like Southend Mencap Music School and Friends in Concert would need a ‘warm-up’ man.
Only small, sedate audiences need warming up, but this sell-out crowd was the liveliest and most generous I have ever seen and heard.
Thanks to all who paid for tickets, from fellow Southend councillors Barry Godwin, Gwen Horrigan and John Stafford to the coach party all the way from Braintree, for playing their part in an unforgettable night.
Two years ago Jim Worsdale wrote me down as a fool. The triumph of David ‘the music man’ Stanley and his extraordinary team on July 4, would seem to prove Jim right.
