Why are we keeping Ronnie Biggs in jail?

In these days of mild sentences with some murderers getting life which means they will be out in a few years, what reason is there to keep a sick old man like Ronnie Biggs imprisoned?

If it is for revenge it does nothing to make me feel good.

It might be due to the fact he made fools of the court by jumping out of a window, or it might be the fact he made fools of the system.

Yes the driver of the train the gang held up was hit by one of the many men involved in the robbery, but it was not Ronnie Biggs.

The man who hit the driver is now dead, or so I was told by an old lag. The driver died six years after the robbery from an unrelated illness.

Please do not think I am an advocate for Ronnie Biggs, I am not. But it is our money that keeps him imprisoned for life at enormous cost, not Jack Straw’s.
