I would like to rectify a mistake I made, according to Mr Lacey, on the Great British Circus (Aug 24).

I stated that five years ago when I visited the circus, a young bear was having its photo taken in the interval with members of the public. On referring to a diary that I kept dated August 19, 2004, I clearly refer to a young tiger.

It does not alter the fact this young animal did not wish to participate, trying several times to get down from the stand.

To compare dogs enjoying jumping into cars to be taken to the beach to elephants and tigers being transported from one venue to another beggars belief.

There is many a fine circus that does not have animals performing, and I will be visiting these.
