Let a human control traffic

12:02pm Monday 8th March 2010

I fully agree with Colin Law (Feb 26) that something has changed at the A127 and Progress Road junction in Eastwood to cause the recent tailbacks.

A short while ago it would take ten minutes to get through the lights towards Southend, now it’s far longer.

I also think the proposed widening scheme to allow more traffic to wait to turn right into the Fairway, will be bad news. The Fairway is extremely busy already, so what is it going to be like once even more traffic uses it? It will be a far busier road.

Instead of spending millions on road widening, why not station a traffic controller (ie a human being) at the lights during the rush hour, and let them control the lights?

Wouldn’t that be a cost effective first step, rather than the huge expense and horrendous delays a road widening scheme would cause?
