If Southend Council has a policy of replacing one tree with two that is excellent news, but that has not occurred in my area where in recent years six trees have been cut down and replaced with two.
Traffic lights at Cuckoo Corner will only make matters worse. There will be longer waits because traffic cannot progress fast enough across these lights before they change colour.
You will then meet up with the traffic lights at the next junction and so on.
The Victoria roundabout will be replaced with traffic lights, which I have always found to be the less efficient of the two.
In order to create the dual carriageway of Victoria Avenue and this roundabout, trees and beautiful houses were destroyed in order to put up the multi-storey monstrosities that, in many cases, had a very short life. Again all in the name of progress and despite the protests of many residents.
What about the trees that have been cut down in Warrior Square? This beautiful green haven is also going to be messed with. I would like to know why?
This should remain what it has always been. An area where one can sit and eat and listen to the birds. Do we really need anything else there, except perhaps a warden to ensure it stays as it is?
This administration gives no thought to alternative ideas and goes merrily on its way spending money on “improvements” that cost thousands and benefit very few. But then, they are not spending their own money are they?
