Spot earmarked for 450 homes is liable to flood

2:37pm Wednesday 10th March 2010

Further to Mr Warren’s letter about cars stuck in flooded Watery Lane, Hullbridge (Feb 26), I would remind everyone this is the area Rochford Council has earmarked for 450 new houses.

The Watery Lane junction with Hullbridge Road is the low point of the area and has often flooded.

The building of houses on this part of the green belt will only make the problem worse.

As most of the area will be concreted over, there will be a large amount of run-off when it rains, pushing more surface water into the Watery Lane area.

In addition, 450 houses will no doubt increase the traffic flow considerably, making Watery Lane and Rawreth Lane even busier, when they are over capacity already.

Will the council start listening to residents who have been warning for years about flooding and very high traffic levels in the Watery Lane area, and the considerable problems that will be caused by additional housing in the area?
