The report titled “Gun permits for kids” (Jan 26) was sparing with the truth.
The facts have been distorted.
The true reality is that children are not and have never been legally allowed to “tote guns”.
The usual reason parents apply for their child to possess a licence is that, unless the parent owns their own land on which to shoot, the child needs to have a licence in their name to even handle a gun while learning the safe way to handle it by a licensed adult.
Licences are vetted by police prior to approval and are not just handed out like TV licences as the anti-gun lobby would like us believe.
I would ask people to remember guns do not hurt people. It’s people who hurt people. So let’s have less negative information in the media about minority sports.
