News Southend Council is considering extending an existing school, but on a different site, will come as good news to schools who have pressure on places, but do not have the capacity to enlarge in their current location.
The need to supply additional primary places is becoming urgent, yet the council still dithers over the details.
The council owns pockets of land in the area, yet says it needs to find suitable locations. One school challenging the plans to expand under the pre-2015 requirements.
Porters Grange, has a piece of land nearby, which could be used to enable a more long term solution to the demands they face. Instead the council is pressing on with plans to expand this already small space.
Councils need to look further ahead to address future needs in education and infrastructure associated with these projects.
Let’s hope future employment is a consideration in the planning, as well as the immediate need for expansion.
