Fake £20 notes flood south Essex
A FLOOD of fake £20 and £5 notes has hit the streets of south Essex.
Clubs, pubs and shops in Southend, Rochford and Castle Point have fallen victim to the dud notes, with at least one case being reported every day.
A recent incident saw more than £300 in counterfeit notes paid over in a single night at the Varsity pub in Warrior Square, Southend.
A second business was given more than £1,000 in fake notes over a similarly short period.
Investigating officer Det Insp Simon Dovaston, said: "The problem is that a note here and there appears to mean very little, but in the bigger scheme of things, we are being hit by repeat offenders who move across the area.
"I would ask that the public remains vigilant when accepting notes, and urge businesses to invest in simple security measures such as UV lamps and pens to foil the perpetrators."

An inside job I reckon.
Some fake notes are very good quality, but to someone used to handling money (like a barman?) they are quite obvious.
I work as a cashier and fake money is easy to spot, just the feel of it gives it away.

Has to be an inside job.
Fake money can be very good quality, but, for someone used to handling cash (a barman) it should be easy to spot.
