A PENSIONER was arrested at a boot sale after allegedly trying to buy goods using fake money - from an off-duty policeman.
The 70-year-old man allegedly tried to buy goods from the officer who was running a stall at Nevendon Boot Sale, off Nevendon Road, Basildon, on Sunday.
The officer suspected the coins might be fake because of their weight.
He arrested the man shortly after on suspicion of possessing £146 in counterfeit £1 and £2 coins.
Officers from Essex Police searched his home in Islington, in north London, and discovered a furnace, a mould and scrap metal. The man, has been released on police bail until June 18.
