THE Football Association have confirmed they are looking in to the incident involving referee Darren Deadman during Southend United’s 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Blues fans accused the Cambridgeshire based official of making an obscene gesture towards them at the Highbury Stadium.

And the FA told the Echo they are set to investigate the complaint.

“We’re fully aware of the allegation and we’ve already started to make inquiries about what happened,” said a FA spokesman.

However, Deadman will not be facing any action from the police.

Southend supporters made statements to officers at the ground on Saturday but a spokesman for Lancashire Police revealed no further action would be taken against Deadman.

“This matter will now be dealt with by footballing authorities and not the police,” said the spokesman.

Deadman was accused of raising two fingers in the direction of the Blues fans in the 28th minute of the match while he stood alongside a grounded Britt Assombalonga who was receiving treatment from physio Ben Clarkson.
