SOUTHEND United centre-back Mark Phillips has declared himself fit for Friday night’s clash with Chesterfield at Roots Hall.

The 30-year-old defender has missed Blues’ last four matches with a knee problem.

But he expects to return to training this week and be available for selection against the Spireites.

“My knee flared up when we went over to train on the 3G pitches, but I’ve had an injection in it since then and it has responded well to that,” said Phillips.

“The little rest I’ve had has done the knee the world of good and I want to return to training as soon as possible this week.

“And I will definitely be available for the Chesterfield game on Friday.”

Blues have extended their unbeaten run of results to 12 matches during Phillips’ spell on the sidelines.

But he is desperate to return to action and make sure it is not a case of unlucky 13 when 10th-placed Chesterfield visit Roots Hall in Southend’s final game before Christmas.
