Southend United striker Gavin Tomlin faces spell on sidelines with thigh injury

Echo: Gavin Tomlin - out injured with a thigh problem Gavin Tomlin - out injured with a thigh problem

BLUES' top goalscorer Gavin Tomlin is facing a spell on the sidelines after pulling a thigh muscle in training.

Tomlin picked up the problem on Friday afternoon.

And Southend boss Paul Sturrock felt the 15 goal striker was missed by his side against Oxford United.

“I think Saturday showed just how influential Gav is to the way we play,” said Sturrock.

“We certainly missed him out there and it was a blow to see him pick up the injury.

“But we do have a lot of options in attack now and hopefully they will be able to step up during the time Gav is out injured.”

It is not yet known how long Tomlin will be missing for but he is currently on crutches to keep the weight off his injury.

Notice the Echo wont allow any comments on the Oxford goalkeeper so I'll put them here. He received a ridiculously low prison sentence. The parents of those kiddies will have a life sentence of sorrow. Yes he made a big mistake but to get out of prison so quickly is a kick in the teeth for the kiddies parents. To see Coughlan go and hug him as he came off the pitch made me feel physically sick. Lost all respect for Coughlan. Hope whilst you hugged the keeper you were thinking of the poor kiddies lying in their graves and the parents and their relatives Coughlan - no I bet you didn't. And Sturrock you're wrong TOTALLY wrong in saying he's paid for his mistake - like hell he has.
