BEN REEVES wants winning to become a habit during his loan spell with Southend United.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined Blues on loan from Southampton on transfer deadline day, made his debut as a second half substitute in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Oxford United at Roots Hall.

And Reeves hopes the hard fought triumph will be a sign of things throughout the next four weeks.

“It was a very good way to start and hopefully it will be the first of a few good results for us,” said Reeves.

“The lads were saying it wasn't the best of performances but I don't think that really matters.

“It's all about getting the three points and that's what we did so it was a pleasing afternoon.”

Reeves showed some neat touches in midfield after replacing Marc Laird nine minutes from time.

And he was pleased to be given a go in his preferred position in the centre of the park.

“My best and favourite position is probably just behind the strikers so it was good to come on in that role, “ said Laird.

“But I'm also happy to play left back, central midfield or on the wing and I just want to get games to be honest so I don't really mind where I get picked.”

Reeves came to Roots Hall having made six first team appearances for the Saints earlier on in the season.

And it was speaking to Blues boss Paul Sturrock which helped him to make up his mind.

“The director of football at Southampton told me there was some interest and I thought things through for a little while but after I'd spoken to the manager I knew I wanted to come in,” said Reeves.

“He told me there were a lot of games to be played during February and there's plenty to be played for too.

“The team is going for promotion and have a chance of reaching Wembley in the JPT so I want to try and help them with both of those.

“I also spoke to Lee Barnard before coming here so I know it's a good club that should be higher than League Two and I want to do well for them while I'm here.”
