Khan’s planning to muscle his way to the top

High there — Zaid Khan demonstrates the ‘Gorilla Press’ move he adopted from the Ultimate Warrior
A WRESTLER from Canvey says he wants to make it all the way to the top of the fight game.
Zaid Khan, 25, hopes to one day take to the squared-circle at the world-famous WWE in America.
The former Furtherwick Park School pupil, who stands 6ft 2in tall and weighs 220lb, has previously boxed for Essex and trained with the MMA specialists at Southend’s Team Sure Grip.
But he says the impressive body builder stature he developed from his love of working out has now seen him move into a career in wrestling.
He finishes his opponents with his signature “Gorilla Press” move, which he copied from one of his idols, the Ultimate Warrior.
Khan said: “It is a tough move to do, and I have to do a lot of squats and military press to build my strength up to do it. But it looks good, and that’s important.
“I also do the ‘Perfect Plex’, which I’m sure wrestling fans will know was Mr Perfect’s finishing move.”
Khan was one of 15 out of 100 applicants nationwide to be invited to attend a seminar with the TNA Gut Check promotion in Nottingham in late January.
It gives unsigned wrestlers the chance to earn a contract with the TNA franchise, which has put on sell-out shows at Wembley Arena, been screened on Challenge TV, and includes among its stars the likes of Kurt Angle, Sting and the legendary Hulk Hogan — who Khan has met.
“Most of the wrestlers invited to the seminar were from up north. There were a couple from London and I was the only one from Essex,” said Khan, who as “Picture Perfect” Zaid Khan is also part of a tag team called Team Perfection, along with the “Punjabi Prince” Jonny Gill, 27.
“I think they are planning to televise some of it soon, then there will be a fans’ vote for which one of us will be signed by TNA.
“It was a great opportunity for me and I hope it comes to something. “There will also be WWE auditions in the UK later this year and we want to go in for that too, so it could be an exciting year for us.”
