Tilson: We could have a new player at Canvey for Saturday

CANVEY Island manager Steve Tilson said it’s “50/50” over whether or not they’ll have a new player in their ranks for today's visit of Carshalton.

The Gulls moved up to third in the league with a fine 2-0 win over Wealdstone at the Prospects Stadium on Tuesday to strengthen their grip on a play-off place.

Tilson was pleased with result and performance, but said they’ll need to stay “lucky” with injuries are get some much-need reinforcements in to stay in the top five.

He said: “In the second half (against Wealdstone) we got the ball and passed it well, and it was a good result against a good side in the end.

“The longer we stay in the play-off places, the better of course.

“But there are 18 games to go and we will need to be lucky with injuries and stay injury free if we’re going to stay there.”

Canvey have been looking to bring in new players since the turn of the year, and Tilson’s admitted they’ve missed out on targets in recent weeks.

When asked on Thursday afternoon if there could be a new face in the squad for Saturday, he said: “There could be – it’s 50/50. We’re talking to people but nothing’s happened for us yet.”
