BLUES centre-back Ryan Cresswell was fuming with himself after being sent off during the second half of his side’s 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Cresswell was sent off in the 64th minute after a clash with Stanley striker James Gray.

And he was disappointed by his dismissal.

“Looking back at the sending off I’m absolutely gutted and fuming with myself,” said Cresswell.

“It shouldn’t have happened and I let emotion take over.

“I’m disappointed in myself for letting that happen.

“The lads did class though and all credit to them and the fans who made the long journey.”

Cresswell will now serve a three match suspension and will miss Blues’ games against Cheltenham, Northampton and Leyton Orient.

But Southend manager Paul Sturrock also hinted that Gray should have been sent off for his part in the tussle.

“Ryan raised his hands and you can’t do that in the modern day so it was disappointing but he was elbowed by his lad first and he didn’t even get booked,” said the Blues boss.
