Concord Rangers hoping it’s third time lucky in cup

CONCORD Rangers will be looking to make the final of the Ryman League Cup when they host Hastings United at Thames Road tonight.

Danny Cowley’s high-flying Beachboys have shown some scintillating form in cup competitions this season, making the semi-finals of both the Essex Senior Cup and the League Cup.

But they were dumped out of the county cup by Grays Athletic earlier this month and will be desperate to avoid slipping up at the final hurdle again tonight.

And the omens are good for Concord, who thumped Hastings — a team struggling at the wrong end of the Ryman Premier table — 4-0 on their own ground earlier this month.

Hastings, who went on a memorable FA Cup run this season, are third from bottom and lost 4-1 at home to Lowestoft Town on Saturday.

Concord or Hastings will face in the final the winners of Dulwich Hamlet versus Thamesmead Town, which also kicks-off at 7.45pm tonight.

Concord’s island rivals Canvey make a long trip to Lowestoft Town in the Ryman Premier tonight eager to get back on track following their 3-0 slip-up at home to Hendon on Saturday.

The fourth-placed Gulls are four points clear of the sixth-placed Trawler Boys, although the Suffolk side have five games in hand.

East Thurrock United are also in Ryman Premier action, welcoming Bognor Regis Town to Corringham.

Three of our Essex Senior League teams are also in action tonight: Southend Manor host Enfield 1893, Hullbridge Sports entertain Bethnal Green United, and Basildon United — fresh from a 2-1 win over Great Wakering — are away to Barking
