Southend United's Kevan Hurst: I only remember the celebrations

Southend United's players and manager Paul Sturrock celebrate their win against Leyton Orient
KEVAN Hurst has already forgotten most of Southend United’s match against Leyton Orient, but the after match celebrations will live long in the winger’s memory.
The winger had a hand in both of Blues’ goals as they secured a 2-2 draw in the second leg with the O’s to clinch a 3-2 win on aggregate.
And that score-line led to some jubilant scenes at the final whistle.
“If I’m honest I can’t really remember much about the match anymore but I certainly remember the celebrations because they were unbelievable,” said Hurst, 27.
“I told the younger lads we have in the squad to enjoy the moment because nights like these are why I became a footballer but they’re very few and far between.
“The fans were fantastic and it’s great that we’ve been able to give the club its first appearance at Wembley since 1930.”
Blues had to dig deep to make that happen though as Orient twice went in front at Roots Hall.
However, Barry Corr and Ben Reeves both worked their way on to the score-sheet to ensure Southend came out on top.
And Hurst was full of praise for the spirit shown by his team-mates.
“We showed good character and really worked hard against a good League One side to get the result we needed,” said Hurst.
“It’s a proud moment for us all and we obviously can’t wait for the final now.
“But before then we need to make sure we do well in the league.”
