HIGH jump star Poppy Lake has won another England vest after securing a silver medal at the English Championships.

The Southend High School for Girls student continued her fine form by clearing 1.76m in the under-20 women’s high jump in Birmingham to secure second place on countback.

Lake, below, who at just 17 is in the bottom year of the under-20 age group, will now represent England at the Celtic Cup in Wales.

There was also a terrific silver medal for Rosa Prideaux in the under-17 women’s 800m.

Prideaux, who like Lake and McLean competes for Chelmsford AC, finished with a late surge to seal a podium spot in 2m 21.54s.

Finishing just behind the Billericay teenager was her training partner Christy Dailly – daughter of former Southend United footballer Christian – who finished fifth (2m 22.75s). Dailly also competed in the 300m, clocking 42.92s.

Southend-based Moesha Howard was fifth in the under-17 women’s 60m hurdles final in 8.94s while Jess Down, a pupil at FitzWimarc, run a PB of 9.82s in the under-15 girls 60m hurdles semi-final.

McLean and Down are both coached by Steve Mitchell who also looks after Nicole McKechnie who stormed to a silver medal in the under-17 women’s 300m in a personal best time of 39.78s.

Basildon AC’s sole representative at the championships was James Gillingham (U20) who once again ran sub-50 seconds for the 400m with 49.99 in his semi-final but unfortunately it wasn’t quite quick enough for a final place.
