Southend United manager Paul Sturrock explains changing captain for Rotherham United clash

Sean Clohessy - captained Southend United against Rotherham United on Saturday Sean Clohessy - captained Southend United against Rotherham United on Saturday

BLUES boss Paul Sturrock named Sean Clohessy as captain for Saturday's game against Rotherham United in a bid to change his side's fortunes.

Southend had failed to win any of the four games in which Luke Prosser had worn the armband in the absence of the injured Chris Barker.

And that led to Clohessy getting the nod at the weekend.

“It was a light hearted moment because we hadn't won with Luke as captain and we wanted a change of luck,” said Sturrock.

“But at the same time Sean deserved the opportunity. He's played more than 150 matches for this football club now. He's a consistent and experienced professional and he was happy to take on the responsibility.”

Is anybody else sick and tired with how Freddy is being treated? Brit has now scored 1 in recent times, don't get me wrong, I think he plays well, but strikers need to score. Why not give Freddy a chance, rather than take the micky out of him by using him for 3 minutes!!!

i would bring Freddie on from the start, but if he just wanders around or is always off.side, bring him off after one hour.
