No love lost for Farnborough as they return to Billericay Town
3:23pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Sport By James Colasanti
FARNBOROUGH visit New Lodge tonight to play Billericay Town in the Conference South fixture which was controversially postponed at the beginning of the year.
The referee called it off 75 minutes before kick-off after ruling the weather-affected pitch was not safe to play on.
It prompted Farnborough manager Spencer Day to say they had made a complaint to the FA through the referee’s report because he felt a decision should have been made to postpone it before they travelled to Essex.
Billericay come into the game on a the back of conceding a last-minute equaliser after twice leading at Basingstoke on Saturday.
They’ll be desperate to get off to a winning start to a crucial run of games in March when six of eight games will be at New Lodge.
Saturday’s game saw debuts for left back Nathan Ashton and striker Leon Smith, who came off the bench to score with his first touch.
Both remain in the squad for tonight’s visit of Farnborough, and Town boss Craig Edwards says he has a full squad available to him.
Concord Rangers could move above local rivals Canvey Island in the Ryman Premier table tonight.
A win for the Beachboys at 15th placed Enfield Town will take them into third in the division and a point above the Gulls, who are not in action.
Elsewhere in the division there’s a huge derby at Rookery Hill as East Thurrock host fierce borough rivals Thurrock at Rookery Hill.
Two of our local teams are in Essex Senior League action tonight.
Southend Manor will look to build on their thumping 5-0 win at home to Clapton on Saturday when they host Enfield 1893 at Southchurch Park, while Bowers & Pitsea host Hullbridge Sports.
