Three-goal Billericay claim scalp of Shelford

BILLERICAY Town ladies team entertained high-flying Great Shelford at New Lodge and secured an important three points with a 3-1 victory.

The hosts took a first-minute lead when Marie Barker beat two defenders and slotted home after some nice approach play from Kerry Oldham, Sally Appleton and Sam Edwards.

And they doubled their advantage in the 13th minute when Barker forced a defensive error and had a shot which was saved, leaving Oldham (pictured right) to bury the rebound.

Great Shelford battled back and a quick attack saw Edwards head the ball off the line.

Billericay’s third goal came 10 minutes before the break when Sophie Whiting played in Fran Lainsey, and after she hit the post Oldham was on hand again to smash home the loose ball.

Great Shelford pulled one back with a scruffy near-post finish from a corner a minute before the break, but Billericay held firm after the break to secure the win.

Billericay are back in cup action on Sunday at New Lodge against Norwich (1.30pm kick-off).

Billericay: Bridgeman, James, Edwards, Poleyket, Appleton, Barker, Lainsey, Whiting, Dunsdon, Oldham, Robins.

l Billericay’s reserves are also at home and face Hutton in a league fixture which gets underway on the training pitch at 2pm.
