Roy’s delighted at March medal win

ROY Warner soon shook the rust from his game to win the March medal at Belfairs.

It’s been a frustrating time for the club’s golfers in recent weeks.

The course has been closed for more than two months – due to the wet weather – and players were itching to get back into action.

Warner took the Friday title with a nett 63 to finish ahead of Dave Buddle on 68 and George Mandaracas on 69.

Nigel Warder took the Saturday medal with a nett 83.

But Sunday’s event was more competitive with a closely bunched field headed by Steve Bucke.

Bucke posted a gross 83 for a nett 68.

Alan Gribbon was a stroke back and Kevin Gough carded a sub-80 round to take third place on 70, just pipping Graham Carter.

>Belfairs Ladies took advantage of the front nine holes at the course finally opening after the wet weather to play a nine-hole Stableford.

Lady captain Pat Pace won with 15 points, beating her daughter, Andrea Clarke, who was two points adrift. Jackie Richardson was third with 12 points.

And when the full 18 holes opened at the weekend, the ladies played their EWGA March Medal match, which was won by Jackie Robinson, with Joan Smith second and Barbara Hall third.
