Southend United ask fans to help clear snow off Roots Hall pitch ahead of AFC Wimbledon match
11:08am Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Sport By Paul Alton
SOUTHEND United are asking fans to help them get this evening’s match with AFC Wimbledon on.
The snow that hit Southend yesterday has left the Roots Hall pitch and surrounding areas covered.
And club chiefs are requesting supporters to help groundstaff clear the snow from the pitch, car park and other areas around the stadium.
“It would be great for as many supporters as possible to get down to Roots Hall and help us get the pitch clear,” said Blues chief executive Steve Kavanagh.
“It’s an important game for the team, and I know the manager and players are desperate for the game to go ahead.”
Fans willing to help out are requested to bring a broom or snow shovel with them and report to the main reception at Roots Hall.
Supporters pitching in will be given a free match ticket to the game against AFC Wimbledon as a thank-you.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 7.45pm and is the first of three home matches Southend have against sides towards the bottom of the League Two table.
Blues are keen to build on their 2-1 win against Port Vale on Saturday which left them on brink of the play-off places again.
