Billericay Town 4, Hayes & Yeading 1
BILLERICAY boosted their survival hopes with an emphatic 4-1 win against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.
Jay May’s brace plus strikes from Alex Osborn and Chris Wild sent the New Lodge faithful crazy as the fight to escape the Conference South drop continued.
Billericay dominated the match and nearly took the lead in the fourth minute when Blaine Hudson’s shot was blocked on the line by Tom Cadmore.
Hayes’ best opportunity came in the dying moments of the half when John Goodard's chip was cleared off the line by Bai Lette-Jallow.
Town took the lead seven minutes after the restart when Lette-Jallow’s header found May in the box. He passed to strike partner Osborn - who looked offside - to hit home a shot which deflected off Brandon Hall and Cadmore.
Hayes pleaded to the officials for offside, but they were waved away.
May doubled the lead seven minutes later when Wild’s hoof up-field bounced perfectly in front of him 25 yards out, and he hit a sweet half volley over Hall and into the net.
Town were in control by their progress was checked by a freakish goal in the 74th minute when Calum Butcher’s cross from the right hand side of the penalty area floated over Kevin Scriven, hit the post and went in.
But just as it seemed the last 15 minutes would be tense, Wild headed home Glenn Poole’s corner, and then followed up by leaping into the Billericay supporters behind the goal.
Then May added a fourth in the 83rd minute when he headed home Poole’s left footed cross from the right.
Billericay Town: Scriven, Rodgers, Ashton, Hudson, Wild, Lette-Jallow (Semakula 77), Collis (Lechmere 46), Poole (Douglas 85), J May, Osborn, Beckles.
Echo MOM: Jay May (Billericay Town).
