BRINN Bevan has been picked to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympics in the Netherlands.

The Deanes School pupil will represent the county at the event which starts in Utrecht on July 14.

The 16-year-old trains alongside GB stars Max Whitlock and Reiss Beckford at the South Essex Gymnastics Club at the Basildon Sporting Village.

Another of our men’s bronze medal winning London 2012 team – Sam Oldham – set up success at last summer’s home Games with a podium place at the European Youth Olympics, and Bevan hopes it will take him a step closer to his dream of competing at the Rio 2016 Games.

He said: “It felt great to be picked, and being part of a multi-sport Olympic event will give me an insight how a major event feels.

“It will show how Great Britain and me as an individual stand against other countries.

“It will be great to see what results we get, and I see it as a step towards Rio because the more experience I get on the international scene, the better.”

The British Olympic Association announced its 44-strong team of athletes aged 13-17 years old who will compete in cycling, gymnastics, judo, swimming and tennis this week
