Southend United manager Phil Brown mulls over striker shake-up for Bury clash
SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is considering shaking up his strike-force for Saturday’s game at Bury.
On-loan Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow has partnered Freddy Eastwood in attack for Blues’ last two matches.
But, with the Shrimpers looking to bounce back after suffering four successive defeats, Brown is mulling over making changes in attack at Gigg Lane.
And both Barry Corr and Craig Reid are being considered for recalls.
“We have options in attack now and I’ll certainly be thinking them all through ahead of Saturday’s game at Bury,” confirmed Brown.
“We don’t have many options at the back, the midfielders have been playing well and it is therefore the striking positions I’ll be mulling over most.
“Barry Corr has been pulling up trees in training this week and has been sending me the message that if it’s goals we want then it’s him who should be playing.
“His response to being left out has been spot on and that’s the attitude we want from our players.
“If you get left out you have to work hard to get back into the team and that’s exactly what he’s done.
“But Craig Reid is also waiting for another chance as well, so there’s certainly plenty to be thinking about.”
Eastwood currently leads Blues’ scoring charts after hitting the back of the net four times already this season.
However, he has failed to score in his last two outings and Woodrow has yet to score since signing from Fulham.
Despite that, Brown has been impressed by the teenager’s displays in attack.
And he refuted suggestions that Woodrow had to start in attack, due to the terms of the loan agreement with the Cottagers.
“I would never agree to anything like that because it would be ridiculous and wouldn’t be any good for anyone,” said Brown.
“Fulham want us to aid Cauley’s development as a footballer and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
“I actually think he’s done well in the matches he’s played so far without getting the goals but he does bring something different to the team.”
