Trio of key players back for Southend Rugby Club's clash with Canterbury
SOUTHEND Rugby Club have been boosted by the return of three influential players for tomorrow’s clash against Canterbury at Warners Bridge.
Prop forward Michael Guess, back row Daniel Legge and centre Chris Vaughan are all available again after missing last weekend’s 38-7 defeat at Redruth.
And, with new star signing Karl Pryce also coming in to the squad for the first time, the Seasiders’ director of rugby Chris Green is confident of his side producing an improved performance.
“It’s great to have the three lads back in and available again because they’re all very important players and hopefully we’ll notice that with a better display,” said Green.
“Michael, Dan and Chris are all good players and having Karl coming in is a huge plus for us too.
“But it’s not all about just him and everyone in the team and the squad is going to have to play their part because it’s a tough league to play in.”
Southend won their opening National Two South fixtures of the season before last weekend’s defeat at Redruth.
That has put them sixth in the early standings, with Canterbury in eighth.
The Kent club have triumphed in just one of their three outings so far this season.
But Green is expecting another close clash against them this weekend.
“We’ve had a number of games with Canterbury over the years and they’ve always been keenly fought out and very close,” said Green.
“I’m sure this one will be the same and it would be great if we could get a few more fans through the door to watch us.
“We’ve started the season well and it would be brilliant if a few more people could come along, see Karl and the rest of the lads in action and hopefully cheer us on to a good result.”
Tomorrow’s match at Warners Bridge kicks off at 3pm.
