Westcliff five look to continue unbeaten start to season
ALL five of Westcliff Rugby Club’s senior sides will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to their seasons this weekend.
None of the club’s teams have yet to taste defeat during the current campaign, with a combined total of 23 victories and one draw.
And fifth team regular Gordon Maxwell insists nobody now wants to be the first team to ruin the impressive run of results.
“Nobody wants to be the first team to lose and there’s a bit of competition now to see who can keep their run going the longest,” said the 43-year-old.
“But I’ve been at this club for a number of years now and I’ve never known a start like this before.
“The place is really thriving, there’s a fantastic feel good factor and the best thing about it all is that the club bring through so many of their own players.
“We have father and son combination across the club and it’s great everyone is doing so well.
“We obviously now hope it can last for as long as possible and it would be great if all five teams were still right up towards the top of their tables come the end of the season.”
Four of Westcliff’s five senior sides currently top their leagues, including the first team.
They are currently leading the way in London One North and will be seeking a sixth successive win when they travel to second from bottom Woodford this weekend.
