South Woodham leave it late in Braintree victory
SOUTH Woodham Ferrers returned to winning ways, seeing off Braintree 39-36 in an exciting encounter at Saltcoats.
Full back Jack Reeve gave Woodham the perfect start with a penalty but Braintree soon hit back with a try to take a 7-3 lead.
The visitors continued to pile on the pressure and ran in three tries to go 26-3 in front.
But Woodham replied and, after a yellow card to a Braintree forward, Ryan Marshall went over following a scrum.
Reeve added the extras and, right on the stroke of half-time, Marshall went over again.
Reeve kicked the conversion to cut Braintree’s lead to 26-17 at the break and Woodham remained on top at the start of the second half with Liam Searles touching down.
Reeve again added the extra two points before a try from winger Warren Duggan put the home-side 29-26 in front.
Three minutes later, Braintree replied with a try of their own but, 10 minutes from time, the impressive Searles scoring his second try of the game.
Reeve converted to make it 36-31 before a Braintree try from a line-out levelled the scores. But, six minutes from time, Woodham made sure of a win when Reeve held his nerve to kick a crucial penalty.
