Southend United manager Phil Brown: We did not deserve Dagenham & Redbridge defeat
SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown felt his side did not deserve their 1-0 defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge at Roots Hall.
Blues were forced to play for more than an hour with 10 men after defender Mark Phillips was dismissed midway through the first half.
But Brown believes the Shrimpers’ fighting spirit should have resulted in them taking something from the game.
“We gave it everything in that second-half and their goalkeeper made a couple of very important saves, especially the one from Cauley Woodrow,” said Brown.
“The players worked extremely hard and pushed for something out of the game.
“I believe we deserved something from it but I wasn’t happy with how we played in that first half.
“I got in to the players more than I have done before at the football club so I’d look at that rather than wanting to blame the referee.
“But this won’t dent our confidence because it was a positive performance and we look forward to going to Newport at the weekend now.”
