Southend United 3, Mansfield Town 0 - LIVE
This live event has finished
Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox
" We played poorly this evening, I thought the red card at first view looked harsh but I can't make a comment until I have seen the replay.
"I'm still confused by the second goal we conceded, the goal was viewed at half time and I've been told he wasn't over the line but these things happen.
"I can only apologise to our fans who have travelled today because that just wasn't good enough.
"I can only reiterate how poor we performed and I said a few words to the boys afterwards but I will keep that between me and the team."
Southend United manager Phil Brown
ON LUKE PROSSER'S INJURY
"Luke has had to have six or seven stitches. But I've always told him as a defender you're judged on scars at the end of your career."
ON CONOR CLIFFORD'S RED CARD
"Conor is an honest and genuine lad. He's gone in to win the ball but both his feet were off the floor and the game seems to highlight those type of combative challenges now."
ON MARC LAIRD'S RETURN
"It was also great to see Marc Laird back and we do have real competition in that midfield now."
ON MICHAEL TIMLIN'S PERFORMANCE
"Michael Timlin has been banging at my door more than any other player. But he certainly took his chance. He was outstanding."
ON THE PERFORMANCE
"The players deserve all the credit. It was a good quality performance and the lads adapted well to the changes we had to make due to two players being stuck in traffic on the M25."
