Southend United defender Luke Prosser suffers nasty head wound against Mansfield Town
BLUES defender Luke Prosser had to have a number of stitches after suffering a nasty clash of heads with Mansfield striker Matt Rhead.
Prosser had to be substituted after the collision, which occurred 12 minutes from time.
But his performance was praised by boss Phil Brown.
“Without making light of what happened to Luke I’ve always said to him as a defender when you get to the end of your career you’re judged on how many scars and stitches you have and he wasn’t afraid to put his head in there,” said Brown.
“I’ve told him that’s what he needs to do and to focus on how many times he puts his head or leg in rather than how many passes he makes.
“He did that tonight and I thought he was magnificent before he had to come off.
“But he has eight days to recover before our next game against Morecambe and fingers crossed he’ll be OK.”
