Rochford Hundred have Ipswich in their sights after home triumph
THIRD-placed Rochford Hundred moved to within four points of London Two North East leaders Ipswich with a 47-12 victory against Norwich.
Rochford fought hard to secure their third win in four games.
And Hundred’s first team manager Graham Pratt was pleased by the manner of the latest triumph at Magnolia Road.
“The team played with more cohesion and determination in difficult conditions,” said Pratt.
“There were still a number of chances that went begging but we did what we had to do against Norwich.”
Rochford went in front with a good try from centre Michael Stemp and a penalty kick from Tom Ashton made it 8-0.
Another impressive try from winger Nick Dolman was then converted by Ashton who also added another penalty to extend Rochford’s lead to 18-0.
Replacement Matt Stewart, who had come on for the injured Tom Bavington, was the next to touch down and Ashton again kicked the conversion.
But Norwich then started to see more of the ball and scored a converted try of their own to cut Rochford’s lead to 25-7 at half-time.
Norwich scored an unconverted try at the start of the second half but Hundred hit back with a try from experienced full-back Sam Edwards and his effort also made sure of a bonus point for his side.
The visitors fought hard to keep their hosts at bay but Rochford had too much firepower and made sure of the win with another try from Edwards, before Tom Corbet also touched down.
