Holt halt South Woodham Ferrers' home run
1:36pm Tuesday 5th November 2013 in Sport
SOUTH Woodham Ferrers’ long unbeaten home record ended in disappointing fashion as a below par performance saw them lose 19-8 to Holt in London Two North East.
Woodham went in front when fly half Cumbers kicked a penalty.
But, just before half-time, the visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game and their talented scrum half exploited a gap close to a ruck to score a good individual try under the posts.
The conversion was added to put Holt 7-3 in front at the break.
However, the visitors from Norfolk were reduced to 14 men at the start of the second half when their hooker was sin-binned for stamping.
And Woodham soon made the most of their numerical advantage with tight head prop Langley crashing over from short-range to put the home side 8-7 ahead.
But rather than Woodham pushing on for the win, it was Holt who raised their game and forced the home team to concede a number of penalties, two of which were kicked.
That buoyed Holt and they defended well to keep Woodham at bay before they added two more penalties in the final 10 minutes of the match to make sure of the win.
