COLCHESTER United boss Joe Dunne has decided against fielding his first team in their Essex Senior Cup match against Billericay Town tonight – despite originally threatening to do exactly that.

The U’s boss had suggested he would play all of his senior players in the fourth-round tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in the aftermath of their 2-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

But although the likes of Dominic Vose and Mark Cousins are set to feature, Dunne says it’s likely to be a young side which entertains the Ryman Premier visitors.

“It probably won’t be the pros,” said Dunne.

“We will use this game as an opportunity, because there’s players that need games.

“But it’s likely to be the young ones and I don’t want to sacrifice their development in any way.”

Billericay come into the game on the back of a much-needed win at Cray Wanderers on Saturday.

The 1-0 success at Hayes Lane was the first league clean sheet Town have kept in a year.

It also ended a seven-game winless streak and moved Billericay up to 10th in the Ryman Premier table.
