TABLE-TOPPING Westcliff bounced back to winning ways with a 39-10 victory at Diss in London One North.

Westcliff had been beaten 11-8 by their nearest challenges Eton Manor in their previous outing.

But they immediately recovered from that setback with a convincing victory in Norfolk.

Westcliff took the lead with a well-taken try for Chris Dudman after a sophisticated back move.

Shortly afterwards, Jack Jones had the pace to ghost through a gap in the Diss defence and crashed over in the corner.

However, the Diss pack refused to lie down and gave their counterparts plenty to do in some feisty forward loose exchanges but the Westcliff defence was not to be breached.

With half-time arriving, Westcliff were 10 points clear and they quickly improved upon this with well-worked tries for Elliott Harvey, Ollie Jones and a second try for Jack Jones, with Dudman adding one conversion.

Diss were rewarded for their persistence with an opportunist try from a cross-kick before hard-working prop Ewan Binneman was on hand to score his second try in two weeks, after a rampaging rolling maul in Diss territory.

The home side cut the arrears with a try from a rolling maul of their own before Greg Bannister rounded off a satisfactory day for the visitors with his 11th try of the season which took the team’s tally to 74 in only 11 games.

The victory also kept Westcliff five points clear at the top of the table.
