BASILDON’S recent resurgence was ended by high-flying Saffron Walden on Saturday as they sunk to a 55-5 defeat.

Basildon went in to the game against second placed Walden with six wins in their last seven outings.

But they found it tough going at the weekend against their second placed visitors who on this evidence will be serious contenders for the league title.

Walden played some fine rugby and showed superb handling skills at great pace particularly on the wings.

When Basildon got some ball they did make inroads into the Walden defence and the home side's only score came from talismanic number eight Jim Harman who smashed his way over following a quickly taken tap penalty.

The defeat pushed Basildon down to sixth in the table
