ROCHFORD Hundred saw off Stowmarket 39-30 but first team manager Graham Pratt felt they should have been celebrating a far greater victory.

Hundred ran in six tries to triumph against their hosts who sit second from bottom in the London Two North table.

Yet Pratt was still not completely satisfied.

“We should have made it a great deal easier than we did,” said Pratt.

“Basic errors and good play by the home side made it very tense.

“It wasn’t vintage Rochford by any means nut when we do eventually get round to putting it all together without the mistakes then some teams are going to suffer.”

That was not the case at the weekend though as Stowmarket opened the scoring when they broke away to grab a try in the corner and, in doing so, put paid to Craig Webb’s debut at full back when he injured his knee in trying to prevent the score which was also converted.

However, Rochford replied with winger Andy Baker speeding over for a try and they then went in front when Scott Horsburgh broke away and powered through for a fine individual effort.

Tom Ashton added the conversion and, after Stowmarket had replied with a penalty, centre Matt Stewart scored Rochford’s third try to make it 17-10.

Another Stowmarket penalty brought them back to within a point at half-time but Rochford opened the second period with a try from scrum half Tom Pickering.

Ashton’s conversion made it 24-16 and that should have settled the outcome of the match but Stowmarket soon increased the tempo of their game and started to launch a number of attacks.

They were soon rewarded with two well taken tries to lead 30-24 and things were starting to look a little worrying for Rochford.

But Hundred hit back with the impressive Horsburgh touching down and Ashton adding the extras to put his team a point in front.

The score then remained the same until late on when good work from Jon Baker resulted in Stewart scoring his second try of the game to secure the win which sent Rochford back up the fourth in the table.
