ROB Kiernan wants to help Southend United see off Chesterfield tomorrow so he can enjoy the buzz of the FA Cup for a second season running.

The on loan Wigan Athletic defender was at Wembley in May to see the Latics surprisingly beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final of the competition.

And he now has his sights set on securing more happy cup memories with the Shrimpers.

“I wasn’t in the squad but I was there in the day and for the celebrations and it was something really special to be a part of,” said Kiernan.

“There was a real buzz around the place and it was just amazing, especially as Ben Watson got the winning goal after working his socks off to come back from a broken leg.

“It was fairytale stuff really and while we’re not going to do that with Southend it would be brilliant to get to the third round or beyond and test ourselves against one of the top teams.

“I think that’s what every side wants at this level but there’s no point getting carried away because Chesterfield are a good team and we need to solely focus on trying to beat them.”

Blues head in to the game unbeaten in their last six games but Kiernan does not know how much longer he will be lining up for Phil Brown’s side.

Wigan are currently looking for a new manager after parting company with Owen Coyle.

And Kiernan, whose current loan stint with the Shrimpers ends in January, is unsure whether or not he will be remaining at Roots Hall.

“I have no idea what’s happening and most of it is out of my hands anyway,” said Kiernan.

“I joined on an emergency loan so I don’t know if I can stay beyond January here and I don’t know what the new manager at Wigan will think about things either.

“All I’m thinking about at the moment though is doing well for Southend and I’m enjoying it here.

“I’m living back at home again and things have been going well on the pitch too.”

Kiernan will now be looking to keep the Shrimpers’ good run of results going against Chesterfield this weekend.

And, having played for Spireites boss Paul Cook during a loan spell with Accrington Stanley, the defender knows exactly how tough it will be to triumph tomorrow.

“I know their manager and his teams will definitely always be very organised,” said Kiernan.

“He also gives his players real belief and I think that will be one of the main reasons Chesterfield are doing so well this season.”

Blues have Freddy Eastwood available again after he recovered from a knee injury and Barry Corr has also shaken off an ankle problem to be available to play.

However, Will Atkinson (suspended), Ryan Leonard (hamstring), Julian Bennett (cruciate ligaments) and Cauley Woodrow (suspended) are all out.
