SOUTHEND United are still working on bringing Bedsente Gomis to the club.
Blues had been hoping to complete a deal for the Senegalise midfielder in time for him to figure at Chesterfield on Saturday.
But, despite being frustrated in those attempts, Shrimpers’ assistant manager Dave Penney confirmed talks were continuing to ensure the move eventually materialised.
“It came close to happening before the game but we needed international clearance from Spain, which is where Gomis last played and nobody was working on Friday because it was a bank holiday,” explained Penney.
“We’re now hoping it happens in the week before our game at Torquay on Saturday.”
